Military Service Should be Compulsory?

Military service that is one of the civic responsibilities is compulsory in some countries such as Turkey; however, this is not valid for all countries. On the other hand, military service is considered as a job in some countries such as the U.S.A. There is no doubt that every country has valid reasons according to themselves, but I believe that compulsory military service is more beneficial for countries.

First of all, every country and every citizen should be ready for battle, and this preparation is possible only when all citizens fulfil their military service. Although we live in the diplomacy age, it does not mean that everything can be solved with diplomatic methods. Every day, everyone may face a war everywhere, and people who do not know how they can survive in war conditions are doomed to die. Therefore, military service should be compulsory.

Those who disagree argue that soldiers do not have enough time to become well- trained because compulsory military service includes just a few months or a year, and it is not adequate for enough training. It may be inadequate, but the aim is not well-trained soldiers. Even though they are not trained enough, the country still has a very large military, and in case of a war, they can use this man power to defend themselves.

Consequently, military service is a necessity for both governments and citizens. It is a way of paying our debt to our country, and it is a low cost way to train soldiers for governments. Also, in this way not only the army but also nearly 50% citizens can be ready for potential war.
